Multicultural Council Grant

Funded by the Chancellor’s Office and Multicultural Student Center (MSC), the Multicultural Council (MCC) Grant provides funding for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and non-RSO student groups for multicultural programs on the UW-Madison campus. Funding decisions are made by the MSC Program and Grant Board, a board of student representatives who are elected/appointed annually.


Mission Alignment

All funding requests must align with the mission of the Multicultural Student Center, which is to collaboratively strengthen and sustain an inclusive campus where all students, particularly students of color and other historically underserved students, are engaged and can realize an authentic Wisconsin Experience. In addition, funding requests must meet two or more of the following four requirements:

  • Educational in Scope: social justice education, cultural education, and/or incorporated into classroom education
  • Fosters Leadership Development: Event planning, team management, critical thinking, and/or problem solving (for organizers and participants)
  • Fosters Career/Professional Development: professional networking, employment seeking skills, exposure to career options, etc.
  • Fosters Community Development: relationship building within and/or across racial/ethnic communities, heritage and awareness observations, participation in campus-wide events (Welcome Week, Homecoming, Parents Weekend, etc.)

$1,500 maximum award per group/per academic year
Groups may receive funding for one event per semester maximum

What the MCC will Fund
Printing (e.g. Student Print, DoIT)
Space Rental (on-campus only)
Equipment Rental
Lodging (only at current State Rate)
Food and non-alcoholic beverages catered by Campus Events Services or university-approved off-campus vendor

What the MCC won't Fund

Events located off campus
Events where alcohol is available or allowed
Fundraising Events
Supplies (e.g. pens, paper plates, decorations, etc.)
Awards (prizes, gift cards, cash, trophies, plaques, etc.)
Reimbursement for funds spent prior to grant award


MCC Submission must be 30 days before event
Hearing must be at least two weeks before event
ASM Application must be submitted 6 weeks in advance.

How to Apply

The MCC grant application opens on Monday, August 1st, 2016 and remains open until Wednesday, April 15th, 2017, or until funds run out. Students must apply at least 30 days before their program date and are encouraged to apply earlier.

Grant Application

  1. Review the “2016-2017 MCC Policy Manual"
  2. Click “Multicultural Council (MCC) Event Grant Application”: Click here to visit the link.
  3. Click the green “Log In” button
  4. Enter your UW Net Id and Password
  5. Complete Form
  6. Submit Form


  1. Please click next in the lower right corner
  2. On the next page click Submit for Approval
  3. After your grant has been submitted your application will appear in your My Submissions section of your WIN page, which you should be automatically directed too.

If you are not automatically redirected, you can always log-in to your WIN page and select My Submissions.

Once on your My Submissions page you should see your MCC Event Grant Application submission
To print select the PDF icon located on the right side of your grant title on the my submissions page
After your grant appears click file, print, or save. 

After Applying

Selected applicants will be invited to a hearing at least two weeks before their program date. The MSC Programming and Grant Board meets approximately every two-to-three weeks during the academic year, except during breaks, to conduct grant hearings. The Programming and Grant Board makes funding decisions immediately following hearings. Applicants can expect to receive a final decision via e-mail within 48 hours of their hearing.
