What we do at WBSU?
- Provide opportunities for black students to serve on committees that deal with student of color issues.
- Work closely with the Minority Coalition to address student of color issues.
- Assist in locating academic, health and social resources on campus.
- Serve as a liason between black students and the administration.
- Create a variety of political, cultural and social events suited to student needs.
- Link students with agencies in the community for volunteer work.
- Host the University of Wisconsin-Madison Ebony Ball and fashion show.
Our Mission
The Wisconsin Black Student Union (WBSU) exists to recognize and embrace the diverse population of students of African descent on the UW campus. By providing a proactive voice on the issues that most affect Black students and serving as a resource to the black populous on campus, the WBSU is designed to foster an environment that better suits the needs of black students. WBSU stands behind a philosophy that through utilizing the many talents of Black students, we can make our presence felt on campus and control the destiny of our educational career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Objectives
- Wisconsin Black Student Union commits itself to making the university an environment conducive to the academic achievement of students of African descent.
- Wisconsin Black Student Union recognizes the importance of our university having a diverse community, thus, WBSU actively encourages the recruitment and retention of African and African American faculty, staff adminstrators and students.
- Wisconsin Black Student Union aims to develop and encourage programming aimed at meeting the cultural needs of the black student population and aims to attract potential constituents.
- Wisconsin Black Student Union understands that many obstacles exist for all students of color on campus, therefore, we interact with other student organizations to lend suppport to the causes that strengthen our impact on campus.
