Princeton University Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts, Three-year LGBT Postdoctoral Fellowship, Application Post Mark Deadline: October 8, 2007
The Princeton Society of Fellows, an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and selected natural sciences, invites applications for the 2008-2011 fellowship competition.
Five fellowships will be awarded:
Applicants for any of the specialized fellowships may also apply for an Open fellowship. Please see website (listed below) for application details and relevant disciplines.
Hosted jointly by the Humanities Council and academic departments, Postdoctoral Fellows pursue their research and teach half-time for a term of three years. The postdoctoral fellowship carries with it an appointment as Lecturer. In each of the first two years, Fellows typically teach one course each semester, following the requirements of the fellowship. In their third year, Fellows teach only one course while remaining in residence in Princeton.
Fellows must reside in or near Princeton during the academic year. The stipend for 2008-2009 will be approximately $66,500. Non-US citizens may apply. Recipients of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University are not eligible.

Volunteers Needed for Asthma Research Cold Study
Do you have a cold? The Asthma/Allergy/Pulmonary Research group at the University of Wisconsin is recruiting men and women for their National Institutes of Health sponsored study titled Viral Induced Asthma Exacerbations (VIAX). This cold study involves 11-outpatient visits over approximately 6-12 weeks. Reimbursement is provided.
To be eligible for participation in VIAX you must:
* Be between the ages of 18-45
* Be free of other medical problems
* Have been a nonsmoker for at least 1 year
* Have a History of asthma and allergies OR have No History of
asthma and allergies
* Have a flexible weekday schedule

WSUM Madison Student Radio - Positions Available
WSUM is looking for on-air DJs, news reporters, sports reporters, and talk show hosts. Training begins the third week of the semester. They are looking for people who are serious about being part of our radio experience. WSUM is particularly interested in freshmen and sophomores as new trainees, but the experience is open to students and non-students (students have preference).
WSUM is your campus community radio station. It operates at 91.7 FM and is licensed to the University of Wisconsin. Your station manager, program director and other executives in charge of programming and other aspects of the station are students.WSUM is now in their sixth year and have already become one of the best free-form stations in the state, if not the country. With your time and commitment, they will establish and maintain their position as the best free-form radio station in the U.S.
Here is what you need to do to qualify for training (they have 60 open slots) – PLEASE NOTE THESE CAREFULLY:
1) Write a concise but illuminating statement of interest (why I want to be a part of WSUM) and send it to gm@wsum.wisc.edu;
2) In that email, include your availability during evening hours Sunday-Thursday. Please be as flexible as you can be in setting your availability schedule;
3) Come to the station at 8, 8:30, 9, or 9:30 any weeknight between September 4th and September 18th for a tour. Ask for the ‘traffic director.’ Tours are given on the half-hour.
Make sure that the traffic director gets your name.
Here is the training schedule for the Fall:
W Sep 19 7-9PM, TITU – Large group training session with important introductory training information. This meeting is mandatory – for this session only, no makeups are possible. If you miss the meeting, you cannot join our staff until January at the earliest. At this meeting, you will be assigned to a lab time.
Su, M,T,R Sept 23-27; Su, M,T,R Sept 30-Oct 4; Su, M,T,R Oct 7-11; Su, M,T,R Oct 14- 18 (these meetings are on-site at WSUM’s studios) – You will be assigned to attend 1 one-hour session per week to be trained as a DJ or other on-air person (e.g., news, sports, talk host). This will mostly deal with technical skills and internal policies that will prepare you to be on the air on WSUM.
Oct 19-Nov 14 – You will ‘shadow’ an existing show and work on making an air-check tape (a sample show to be reviewed by our program director). We will have staff available to help you through this process of creating your own show proposal.
W Nov 14 7-9PM OR Su Nov 18 6-8PM (your choice), TITU – Final large group training session, including a test, aircheck tape and show proposal turn-in and certification as a WSUM training graduate.
Key Information:
TITU – This means “Today in the Union,” which means the room for this meeting has not been assigned until the day of the meeting. Most likely, it will be held in 1111 Humanities, but check the TITU board at http://www.union.wisc.edu to verify.

HIP-HOP FILMMAKER WEIGHS IN ON MANHOOD, SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Byron Hurt, a filmmaker who loves hip-hop and is the co-founder and former associate director of the United States Marine Corps gender violence prevention program, will address students and community members about sexual violence on Monday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Theater.
The event is part of the two-day conference on sexual violence on college campuses, sponsored in part by the University of
Wisconsin-Madison Subcommittee on Sexual Assault and Dating Violence, the UW System and the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
The event is free, open to the public, and does not require tickets for entrance. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Hurt will show parts of his film, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes," and will challenge audiences to interrogate the damaging effects of racism and sexism in American culture.
Selected for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes," examines representations of manhood, sexism, and homophobia in hip-hop culture. Conceived as a "loving critique" of certain disturbing developments in mainstream rap music culture, the film features interviews with famous rappers such as Fat Joe, Chuck D, Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, along with cultural commentary from Michael Eric Dyson, Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Kevin Powell, and Sarah Jones. The film also features on-the-street interviews with aspiring rappers, as well as interviews with young women at Spelman College and hip-hop events.
Kelly Anderson, director of the Dane County Rape Crisis Center, will offer opening comments along with a short performance by First Wave spoken-word artists from the Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives.

PA for the WI Coastal GIS Applications Project (2 positions)
Duties: Provide technical assistance to the Wisconsin Coastal GIS Applications project. Implement web mapping sites for visualizing and disseminating geospatial and observational data for Wisconsin and the Great Lakes. Develop geospatial technologies that assist coastal communities to adopt and implement comprehensive plans.

Informational Video Production PA
Primary Duties: Assist with producing an informational/educational video about excessive algae on Lake Michigan beaches. Assist project leader in all aspects of video production. (Video will primarily contain one-person interviews.) Draft and/or edit narration for video. Research may include learning about nuisance algae and other stormwater runoff issues, synthesizing perspectives of scientists, state and local officials, farmers, and environmental groups, and identifying appropriate interview subjects.
Additional Duties: Depending on your experience and interest, work may include developing, designing, or creating associated exhibit ideas or materials. May also include producing short "video vignettes" about research and outreach activities at the Aquatic Sciences Center.

Graduate Project Assistantship: UW School of Human Ecology, Covering Kids & Families, Application deadline: September 20
Covering Kids & Families-Wisconsin is housed within the UW School of Human Ecology and is a statewide coalition focused on making sure those who are eligible for Medicaid and BadgerCare know about and can easily enroll in those health insurance programs. This 50% graduate student position is available to begin immediately and would continue through the end of Spring semester 2008.
Duties: Use ArcGIS mapping software and InDesign desktop publishing software to produce pamphlets describing uninsurance rates and data related to being at risk for being uninsured, specific to each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. Identify and pursue ways in which to enhance the content and design of the pamphlets to better serve advocates throughout the state. Secure opportunities to present the findings within the pamphlets to local organizations throughout Wisconsin. Identify and implement a plan for active dissemination of CKF’s work beyond the mapping project through earned media, poster and workshop presentations at state, regional and national health and poverty-related conferences, academic journals and other publications and via the web
Qualification: Experience with ArcGIS or other similar data-mapping programs. Familiarity with InDesign or other similar desktop publishing programs. Familiarity with Excel spreadsheets. Familiarity with census and other web-based data, including means for importing and cleaning for use with data-mapping software. Experience with social science data and terminology. Interest in public program or consumer outreach. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Self-directed and organized. Experience with media relations, academic journal publication processes and Wisconsin community-based organizations preferred

Graduate Project Assistant: UW Madison Dance Program
Project Assistant 33 1/3% for 9 months. This is a position for a graduate student who has excellent skills working in a Mac platform and some experience with Windows. The ideal candidate must be able to work well independently or as part of a team, under supervision, and will need to be able to handle urgent deadlines as well as stay on top of long-range projects. Having a flexible personality with a strong sense of responsibility is essential as well as an interest in Performance/Dance/Theater. Ability to work with some of the following kinds of software is required: Final Cut, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, Quick Books. Job duties are to assist Professor Li with the production of creative work under a variety of conditions. Financial Assistance for Child Care Fees
If you are an enrolled UW-Madison student parent, you my qualify for financial assistance toward child care fees through the Child Care Tuition Assistance Program. (CCTAP) CCTAP financially assists eligible low-income student parents maintain quality child care for their children. CCTAP is funded through student fees recommended by the Student Services Finance Committee and approved by the Chancellor and the Board of Regents. Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters.

AmeriCorps NCCC returning to Madison
Could you use $4,725 to help pay tuition or student loans? Are you interested in traveling the country for free while helping communities in need? Are you getting ready to graduate or considering taking a year off? If so, AmeriCorps NCCC may be for you!
AmeriCorps NCCC – a team-based national service program - is looking for dedicated 18- to 24-year-olds who want to commit 10 months to helping others. While you are in the program we provide you with training, leadership development, lodging, meals, health benefits, a living allowance, and travel expenses. You will complete a series of 6- to 8-week-long service projects that will focus on continued disaster relief, especially on the Gulf Coast, but may also include working with schools, helping the environment, building affordable housing, or supporting other community organizations. After successfully completing the program, you will receive a $4,725 education award.

Physical activity study
The purpose of this study is to examine physical activity preferences and barriers in a diverse sample of college students (18-40 years of age). If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete an informed consent form and three questionnaires. Once you have completed the questionnaires, you will be interviewed and asked about your current level of physical activity. Next you will be given a pedometer which is a small, unobtrusive unit that slips to a belt and is worn around your waist. You will be asked to wear the pedometer for five days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday)to record the number of steps you take during a normal day. After you have completed wearing the pedometer for five days, you wil return the pedometer to the Exercise Psychology Laboratory and you will be paid $10.00 for completing the study.
Participation in this study is voluntary, and there is minimal to no risk associated with participating in this study. All information collected will be treated in strictest confidence. You will not have to place your name on any of the questionnaires. You are free to discontinue involvement in this study at any time with no negative consequences.
