Staff Professional Accomplishments
Candace McDowell, Director, Multicultural Student Center, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Association for Black Culture Centers (ABCC). The Association for Black Culture Centers is an organization that perpetuates culture through networking, caretaking and institutionalizing of Black and Multicultural Centers. The Association for Black Culture Centers includes more than 700 members and affiliates in all fifty states, the Caribbean and West Africa.
Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Center, was appointed to the Commission of Equal Opportunities (EOC) for the city of Madison. The purpose of the EOC is to study and review cases associated with the existence, character, causes and extent of denial of equal opportunity with respect to: Employment, Housing, Public Accommodations, City Facilities and Credit, and others. Holmes-Hope was appointed to a three-year term by Mayor David J. Cieslewicz.
Candace McDowell, Director, Multicultural Student Center, has been selected to serve as the State Coordinator of Wisconsin for the Association for Black Culture Centers (ABCC). McDowell will disseminate information and serve as a resource to cultural centers throughout the state.
Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Center, has been appointed Regional Chair, NASPA IV East African-American Knowledge Community (AAKC) and Regional Board Member. Holmes-Hope also serves on the AAKC Executive Steering Committee. Holmes-Hope was appointed to a two year term by the NASPA AAKC National Committee.
The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) is the largest profession association and leading voice for student affairs administration with more than 12, 000 members at 1, 500 campuses and represents 29 counties.
Charles Holmes-Hope, Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Center, has been appointed to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Student Personnel Association (SPA) executive board as an At-Large Member. Holmes-Hope was appointed to a one year term by the association.
