The Wisconsin Black Student Union (WBSU) exists to provide a proactive voice on the issues that most affect black students and serve as a resource to the black populace on campus. The WBSU is designed to foster an environment that better suits the needs of black students, standing behind a philosophy that through utilizing members’ talents, they can make a strong presence known on campus and control the destiny of educational careers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. WBSU also provides opportunities for black students to serve on committees that deal with student of color issues; assists in locating academic, health and social resources on campus; serves as a liason between black students and the administration; creates a variety of political, cultural and social events suited to student needs; and links students with agencies in the community for volunteer work. WBSU events include the annual Ebony Ball and fashion show, programs during Black History Month, and panels, workshops, and speakers.
