India Students Association (ISA) promotes and increases awareness of South Asian heritage and culture through education, campus events, and community involvement, while also providing a place for social networking. Over the past few years, ISA has grown into one of the largest and most active student organizations on campus. They have nearly 250 members and 40 years of experience, and they draw an audience of over 1,500 people to their annual show, India Night.
The South Asian culture is one of the world’s oldest and most captivating. Using a series of lectures, musical and dance performances, and traditional celebrations, ISA promotes the sharing of this culture and heritage to the greater campus. Both their Fall Show and India Night are cultural variety shows with singing, dancing, fashion, and fun skits. They feature performances by dance groups such as the UW School of Bhangra, Wisconsin Surma, and Hypnotiq. They also host dance workshops to teach people unique Indian dance styles and music.
