African Students Association (ASA) was formed to promote cultural and social awareness of the African people amongst the entire student and faculty of UW-Madison, to facilitate better communication and understanding between African people and all other members of the university community and to encourage activities that portray the noble cultural treasures of the African continent.
ASA meets every other week, on Sunday afternoons. Members have the opportunity to perform with their dance troupe, serve on the ASA Board of Directors and participate in the planning and execution of exciting events. Meetings typically entail round-table discussions with the entire body about school and other daily real-world issues, small group discussions about current events or upcoming events/projects, music from all regions of Africa, a presentation of “Country of the Week”, and occasionally traditional food pot-lucks.
