Description
Dear Members of the Campus Community:

You are cordially invited to the 2009 Diversity Forum, which will take
place on October 8, 2009 at the Memorial Union. The Forum is an
opportunity for faculty, staff and students, to listen, reflect, and learn
together, as we continue our work towards becoming the model university of
the 21st century.

The theme of this year's Forum is"Seeding Inclusive Excellence" and
launches our campus-wide conversation designed to bring the Campus
Strategic Framework, For Wisconsin and the World, to life, as it relates to
issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

You may register for the Forum at:
<http://www.ohrd.wisc.edu/reg/catalog_course_detail.asp?course_key=26432>

Launching the Campus Strategic Framework for Diversity

For Wisconsin and the World provides a broad platform for us to activate
the Chancellor's staunch belief that diversity and excellence are
fundamental to one another and essential to our identity as the nation's
pre-imminent public research university. As we move forward with the
activation of her framework, implementation of the Madison Initiative for
Undergraduates, and build on lessons learned from our successful
reaccreditation process, we know that our renewed strategic diversity
agenda must focus on ways to quicken the work that is already taking place
to:

1. increase access and equity for diverse groups, with a particular
emphasis on historically underrepresented minorities and women,
especially in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics) areas and in senior faculty and senior administrative
roles;
2. create a multicultural and inclusive campus climate for the entire
campus community;
3. support a scholarly research agenda as it relates to diversity from a
domestic and international perspective; and
4. prepare students to thrive personally and professionally in a world that
is diverse, global, and interconnected, both locally and
internationally.

These themes are woven throughout each of the guiding strategy documents
produced over the last 24-months, and form the core of where we must focus
our conversation of Inclusive Excellence moving forward.
